T-shirt Sighting!

It's been a while!

I haven't seen much Corn Palace-related stuff anywhere lately.

But then I saw this:

This is a picture of Har Mar Superstar and Rebecca Hanson.

Rebecca is the new voice of Gypsy in the new MST3K!

She also plays Synthia!

Har Mar Superstar does the new MST3K theme!

I also know him from this scene:

I follow him on twitter too!

He has a music career. I should learn more about it.

Anyway, this picture:

This picture is from Hanson's tumblr.

In it Har Mar Superstar is wearing a Corn Palace T-shirt!!!!!

This one:

I don't know if it's available in the Corn Palace gift shop or online.  A quick googling doesn't give me much information.

There are lots of Corn Palace shirts available online on places like cafepress, zazzle, and etsy, but I don't know how many of them are official shirts, and how much are other people cashing in on the name.

Be careful out there, people.

May 2017 - some pictures

Over the weekend I was in the Corn Palace for my sister-in-law's high school graduation.

I took some random pictures of things that caught my eye.

I bought some Corncessions.

That's it!

I don't find as much Corn Palace stuff in the media as often as I'd like.

If you find anything I haven't already posted, I'd love to include it!

Send any Corn Palace-related stuff to sethifusp@gmail.com

Vampire Academy and Travel Books!

Several months ago I found this image on tumblr under the "corn palace" tag:

Here's the link.

I've never read the Vampire Academy books, but I tried to watch the movie.

I only got through part of it, but couldn't bring myself to watch the rest. I also haven't found any VA scene on youtube mentioning the Mighty Palace of Corn.

But I did do a google search:

So there are a couple references to the Corn Palace in the Vampire Academy series. I don't plan to read it (the bit I watched of the movie told me it wasn't something I'd enjoy), but if you like such things and the Corn Palace, it's out there.

I was in Half Price Books the other day, wandering down the aisles, and this caught my eye:

There were 3 or 4 copies. So if you want one you can get one or more at the Half Price Books on 86th and Ditch in Indianapolis, IN.

Updated Corn Palace Puzzle!

While I visited the Corn Palace a couple months ago, (see previous post), I got the new Corn Palace Puzzle!

We finished it quickly.  It's much easier to do a puzzle when you don't spill coffee on it.

Corn Palace 2016!

A couple months ago I got to visit the Corn Palace!

Here's a bunch of pictures from in and around the CP!

Some of these pictures were of an exhibit in the Palace called "Amazing Maize". It was similar, but not exactly the same as the exhibit of the same name I saw at the 2015 Indiana State Fair.

Go visit the Corn Palace! It's fun.

Corn Palace Songs!

In my research about all things Corn Palace I've stumbled upon some songs!

Five of them!

1. Corn Palace - the Breakup Society

This may be my favorite of the songs. It's about a guy who lost a love and wishes he'd taken her to the Corn Palace when he had the chance.

It kinda reminds me of the music of Polaris/Miracle Legion, and that makes me happy.

2. Corn Palace - Smokin Joe Kubek Band

At least I think it's about the Corn Palace. It's bluesy and instrumental. And it's called "Corn Palace".

3. Corn Palace Heirs - Dutch Pink

This sounds like Tom Waits. Kinda.

I'm not sure if it's exactly about the Corn Palace, but Corn Palace is in the name. And it says "Corn Palace Heirs" in the lyrics.

It's growly.

4. New Corn Palace March - Karl L. King

This website says that King performed the New Corn Palace March at the Corn Palace on September 26, 1921 for... a celebration of the New Corn Palace?

That was probably a lot of fun!

5. Mighty Palace of Corn - sethifus

I round out the 5 with my song about the Corn Palace.

Why? Because I like my song.

And because I couldn't find a 5th song besides mine.

5 was a better number than 4.

Pics from Christmas Time! Domes! Uniforms! Etc!

I was back in Mitchell over Christmas time. I took some pictures, but never got around to posting them.

Here they are!

I thought it was interesting that the Daily Republic still has the old domes by their name.

My sisters-in-law told me that one of the old domes was still in town. My brother-in-law Ben and I drove around and found it!

Ben took a couple pictures of me with it.

It was even bigger than I thought it'd be!

We went to the Corn Palace and went inside to warm up.

I sat on a tractor.

If you go upstairs inside you can see a bunch of Oscar Howe's original sketches he used to plan many of the Corn Palace murals! It's neat!

A week or two ago I saw on facebook that there are going to be new DWU uniforms for their sports teams.

I took a screen shot of Matt Wilber's post on twitter.

They're going to have an MST3K-style Corn Palace silhouette on them!

Cool beans.

Corn Palace on a U-Haul!

I spotted this U-Haul trailer behind the stage at the Indy Irish Fest last week!

It's fun to find the Mighty Palace of Corn in unexpected places!

The Palace at the 2015 Indiana State Fair

I went to the fair today.

They have an exhibit about corn.

One end of a section of the exhibit was all about the Corn Palace!

That is all.

Domes, Graduation, and Floaty Pens!

This weekend I got to visit the Corn Palace for my sister-in-law's high school graduation!

They took the onion-shaped domes off of the top and built new ones.

They're not on the palace yet.

I understand why they're replacing the old domes, and I can see what they were going for with the new design, but I don't much care for the new domes.

They're cleaning up the inside, too.

The Corn-cession stand sells bottled water with a Corn Palace label.

My sister-in-law's graduation reception was at the Ramada Mitchell Conference Center. There was a drawing of all the local Mitchell businesses handing in the lobby and right in the middle was the Mighty Palace of Corn!

I also got to stop by the gift shop to buy some presents and a new floaty pen for myself!

If you know of any Corn Palace-related stuff I should know about, please let me know in the comment section below!
