Corn, PALACE, PUZZLE!!!!!!

When I was at the Corn Palace gift shop last month I bought something.

It's a puzzle! Which you know if you read the title of this post.

My wife and I put a little over half of it together and then I spilled coffee all over it.

This made it much harder to finish the puzzle.

The pieces separated in half the long way. It changed the colors of the pieces it touched. The pieces also swelled a little so they didn't fit together very well.

We put it all together.

Then Princess Melawesome figured out that some of the pieces were in the wrong spots.

She figured out which ones were in wrong and put it all together correctly!

Over-all it was a pretty good puzzle. It was fun until I ruined it with Gevalia Traditional Roast. I think it's probably a good puzzle. It would've been hard enough because of all the different shades of blue in the sky, but the coffee-shaded pieces, swelling, and piece halving made it much more frustrating.

Anyway, we finished it.

What year was this Corn Palace display? I don't remember for sure. Usually it says the year on the front of the building, but either it didn't this year or they edited it out to... make the puzzle more timeless?

I thought about checking the box but...

I've spent way too much time and energy on this puzzle.

I hope you're happy. I did it for you.

Corn Dome!

My friend Vicky Vetter pointed out that I missed the Corn Palace domes on the grass a block or two away from the Palace itself. So she sent me the picture you see above to add to the blog! Enjoy!

Here is a picture of the Palace without the domes.

It's behind the Slush Puppie I drank whilst walking around. You can read my review of the Slush Puppie here on my other blog!

Thank you, Vicky!

Corn Palace Days 2014!

I just got back from a short, weekend visit to Mitchell. It was a whirlwind trip, but I did get to spend the better part of an hour on Sunday morning walking around the closed-down Corn Palace Days. I got a good group of pictures that you'll see below! Mitchell is just covered in Corn Palace.

They are redoing the Corn Palace!

They took off the domes, which makes the Palace look a little funny.

Corn Palace Days has lots of rides, games, and food vendors. This is probably my favorite Corn Palace ripoff I've ever seen!

You might not be able to see it, but there are a few domes painted over the words on this window.

This is what they put up before they add the corn to the murals!

And with the official Mitchell City Seal we are done! Look for another post soon. It'll be about something I bought at the Corn Palace gift shop!

Some more Corn Palace Pics from Around Mitchell.

I was in Mitchell last week so I took a bunch of pictures of different artistic renderings of the Corn Palace from around town.

That's all for now! There were several other pictures I wanted to take, but didn't get a chance to while I was there. I'll have to get them next time.

Do you have any Corn Palace related stuff you'd like to suggest or contribute? Send it to me and I'll put it up!

Where can I find these clips?

There are at least 2 clips from television that feature/mention the Corn Palace that I've been meaning to use on this blog since I started it but have not been able to find. I will link to a couple pages that mention them, but have searched many, many times for them and have not been able to find any clips or other evidence.

Road Rules:

On the first season of Mtv's Road Rules they went to the Corn Palace. I remember watching the episode on TV in college when I lived in Mitchell. I can not find a clip and the only references I can find are in summaries of the previous episode 01/12 "Crash Up and Bang Up Time",

"Over the loudspeaker, the cast finds that the next mission will take them to Mitchell, South Dakota, where they will visit the Corn Palace."

The next episode 01/13 "Meeting the Stoned Presidents" is mentioned, but I can't even find a summary of the episode, let alone a clip.

If anyone can point me towards a clip or at least a summary, I'd appreciate it.

Teen Angel:

(image from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teen_Angel_%281997_TV_series%29)

This one is a mention and maybe an image. It's from when the Teen Angel guy is talking to God... or his head... or maybe his friend who he was sent back to help or something... I don't remember this show very well. I don't remember seeing this episode, but my wife told me about it and I looked it up. All I could find was a couple line on a message board somewhere:

Rod: "Quit doing that, or I'll send you there!
Mike: "Not The Mitchell Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota!?!"
Rod: "What?! No, the other there! I'm talking about Hell!)

That's the only reference I've been able to find! I would love to see this clip an post it! If you have it or know where I can find it, please let me know!

Love,

Sethifus

The Corn Palace on urbandictionary.com

There is a definition of "Corn Palace" on urbandictionary.com

Click on the link, if you are not easily offended.

Why Isn't There a Corn Palace Corn Popper?

Why isn't there an official Corn Palace Corn Popper?

(pic from amazon.com)

There could be a tiny Corn Palace in amongst the popping balls...

The Corn Palace around Mitchell

I was in Mitchell last week and took some pictures of signs and such around town that referenced the Corn Palace.

If you have any Corn Palace sightings in TV shows, comics, or other media, send them my way!

Space Skull and Corn Palace

Here's one of the Space Skull online comic strips that mentions the Corn Palace. It's kind of mean for no reason.
